The Alpha Prey edition by Lou Kelly Stephen Hoppa Romance eBooks
I enjoyed this book so much that after reading it on kindle unlimited I bought it because I will definitely read it again. It was an interesting blend of characters from different worlds and the action moves from wilderness to city and back. I hope there is a sequel with some of the interesting secondary people!Update: Thank goodness I reviewed this. I was reading another very good book about figure skaters,The Next Competitor: Gay Figure Skating Romance, and remembered this book and wanted to read it again. If you have a lot of books on your kindle it can be hard to find one unless you remember the title! ;) Finally I found it by doing an F-Ctrl word search in my reviews. Clutches imaginary book to my chest, relieved to have found it again. We'll never be parted.

The Alpha Prey edition by Lou Kelly Stephen Hoppa Romance eBooks Reviews
The Alpha's Prey opens with Alpha wolf Aaron out of control. Having migraines. He is obsessed with a famous ice skater that was kidnapped and is still missing. Aaron doesn't know why he's acting this way but it's impacting his wolf pack.
Yes Devon was under the control of a rouge alpha male wolf Kidnapped, raped, and tortured. All of those details are off camera. What we do see is Devon's recovery, one step at a time. People are there for him but all of the mental work is on him. Aaron is patient in caring for Devon and the whole situation brings out the best of his alpha instincts. This is his mate. He will stand up for this human and is behind his recovery 100%. Aaron had doubts but kept those to himself and put Devon first. Mating had to wait, acceptance came first.
There's dealing with humans more than this pack and wolf shifters in general want. Devon is famous and everyone knows about his kidnapping. There's reporters, fans, and expectations with his skating. The scrutiny is unrelenting and here wolves are involved and of course they have their own secrets to keep. There's some wonderful ice skating moments, some interviews, and an overwhelming theme of rising up and overcoming. I'm looking forward to more of this pack / alpha pair / world. - Dan's Wife
This was a very emotional, sometimes intense book with a message of love and courage triumphing over abuse and despair. As the novel opens Aaron, pack Alpha, has been having a number of un-shifter-like physical maladies--nightmares, migraines, and more. He has found himself obsessed with the hunt for a figureskater who has been missing for a month. Following his instincts, Aaron is able to effect a rescue for the man, Devon, who turns out to be his human mate. The problem is that Devon has been held for a month by a sadistic werewolf and fears both for wolves and for his sanity. As Aaron becomes part of Devon's life the secret of Aaron's own identity as a shifter becomes more problematic. Also Devon is having issues healing Will he skate again? Will he ever escape the fear that The Alpha will come for him again? Is he crazy for being sure that what he saw was a werewolf? All of this makes up the suspense that weaves through the story. It is both a love story and the story of one man healing from a horrific experience. I applaud the fact that the author doesn't give all the credit to Aaron's love and support, but lets a good part of his healing and strength come from Devon's own personal resolve and courage. This is also not a story of insta-love. The author in her bio states that she eschews this approach in favor of the slow burn and I think that, while they are drawn together and connected emotionally from the start, the love and deeper connections come with time. The story builds to a suspenseful and dramatic climax with a perfect phoenix-like ending that melds both Devon's strength and Aaron's love. I look forward to more by this author. NOTE I would strongly warn people who have suffered physical or sexual assault that there are some pretty harsh things either implied, off-screen, or briefly on-screen that may be triggers. No sexual assault is on-screen but there are a number of references to it and The Alpha refers to it many times when he appears.

This one didn't work for me.
The author had a great chance to really explore and work with Devon's fear of wolves. But I didn't feel that this was handled well. To me it felt rushed at times and he was quick to get over it.
I finished it, but I didn't really care about any of the characters by the end.
This book was recommended for me to read and I am so glad that I took that recommendation. I could not put this book down it was a page turner from start to finish. it was more then a m/m romance. it was truly a suspenseful thriller. Lou Kelly is a masterful story teller and I will be purchasing more of this writer work in the future.
Devon is a figure skating champ who was kidnapped, tortured, and held for weeks by a rogue alpha. We enter the story just before he is rescued. Aaron is alpha of the pack which rescues him and he and Devon are mates, but Devon is now terrified of wolves. Story is well written but lacked something, I'm not sure what. The only time I really felt strong emotion was during Devon's skating routine. The rest was just ok.
My first Lou Kelly book. Crisp writing with fully developed characters, well paced tension, heat, and humor. My only complaint is that I wish there was an epilogue after the epilogue 😉
It's always a crap shoot when you try a new writer. There are a lot of good ones out there but also some cringe-worthy ones. I'm so glad I took a chance on this book. I'm hoping LK has an extensive backlist to catch me up. I love finding good authors, and if this book is any indication, I have some good reading ahead of me.
Highly recommend.
